Kevin Eriksson was flying from the beginning and set the second fastest time in free practice. He drove consistently in the top 5 in qualifications but got his rear tire crashed in Q3 by Grönholm who hit him twice in the start turn and was not even penalized for it.
Eriksson touched a tire barrier in Q1 jokerlap and lost a good place but made it up by his 'round the outside first corner' in Q2. Otherwise a P6 for Timo Scheider and P10 for Kevin Eriksson after Q2 left all options open.
